Principal Message - November
Dear Traeger Elementary Families,
I cannot believe it is already November! This school year is flying by.
With the first quarter of the year wrapping up, it is a great time to continue those conversations with your student(s) about what they are learning in literacy, math, and science/social studies, and how they are using Conscious Discipline in the classroom. Ask them about strategies they have learned and are applying, new concepts they have tried, and what they are most engaged in right now! We had our first all school family meeting a couple weeks ago and it was fun to come together to celebrate our amazing students!
We are excited to welcome all families in for parent teacher conferences on Thursday, November 14th and Tuesday, November 19th. We will utilize PTC Fast to sign up for your conference meeting time with your student’s teacher. Here is the link to sign up for conferences. If you need assistance in signing up, please reach out to your student’s teacher or contact the office. Conferences are a great opportunity to be updated on all the successes that your student has experienced already this year and areas they will continue to grow in. You will also be receiving information from assessments and data that teachers have been collecting. This information is baseline data and is specifically used as a starting point for teachers to plan instruction. In January and at the end of the school year, data will be re-shared with you to show your student’s growth. We greatly value the partnership with each of you toward the growth of all students in learning!
Our Thanksgiving Break will take place Wednesday, November 27th through Friday, November 29th. We hope you have a wonderful holiday and will see you back at school on Monday, December 2nd.
Sincerely,
Kristin Burgert
PBIS UPDATE
October brought our first whole-school morning meeting! On October 18th, students had a chance to meet and connect before starting their day of learning. Students sang the school song, celebrated the tree-mendous students, calmed their body with a shared breathing activity and connected with other students as they responded to whether they liked/disliked certain fall activities. This meeting format mimics what is followed in each classroom during morning meeting time.
The monthly Social-Emotional Learning focus was learning about the brain states to help us bring our best selves to school. Classrooms discussed different feelings and how they affect their decision making and ability to self-regulate.
November SEL Minute :
Gratitude
This month’s SEL (Social Emotional Learning) key topic is Gratitude. Students are learning how to reflect, give and grow as they take time to pause and find opportunities to acknowledge the ups and downs they have every day. When students focus on the good, they tend to make better choices.
This month take time as a family to complete a gratitude challenge. Over the next 21 days (that’s how long it takes to make a habit) make this challenge a part of your nightly routine or family dinner. Gratitude needs to be practiced like any other skill. Help your family develop a gratitude mindset by training your default thinking and state of being to focus on deep internal appreciation. Here is an interactive, fun, printable for your family to get started!

November PSA
- Absenteeism is a lost opportunity to learn. We can’t afford to think of absenteeism as merely a lack of compliance with school rules.
- Parents are most trusting of their child’s teacher, and want to hear attendance-related messaging from them
November Tips and Strategies
- Relationships can motivate showing up and allow a student and family to feel comfortable sharing why they miss school. Consider using the Dots activity or Who is Your Person survey to examine if every student has at least one adult they can go to for support
- Mental Health America's Supporting Young Minds Guides provide tools for youth to help them feel empowered to address their mental health and support each other. The guides also offer tools for adults to support young people in the places they live, learn and play. Find the guides in English and Spanish.
